Eastern News Review welcomes clear, original proposals about how regional reporting is sourced, framed, produced or read. Pitches should help a general reader understand a specific reporting choice without pretending that one example explains every newsroom.
What we welcome
We consider explanatory essays, close readings of a headline or reporting convention, background pieces on newsroom practice and reader-focused analysis of attribution, context or circulation. Strong pitches have a defined question, a clear reason it matters and a scope that can be handled fairly. Avoid pitches built around unsupported allegations, confidential material or a single claim presented as proof of a broad pattern.
What to include
Send a short summary of the proposed piece, its central point, the material or sources it would rely on and why the subject suits Eastern News Review. Mention any relevant conflicts of interest and whether the work has appeared elsewhere. A proposal is not a guarantee of publication; do not send confidential or sensitive personal information.
How to propose a piece
Send proposals through the Contact page and select the editorial option. Include enough detail for an informed decision, but do not attach a full manuscript unless requested. We cannot promise a response time or accept every submission.
A headline is a starting point, not a verdict.
We examine how regional reporting is made and read, paying attention to sources, framing and what remains uncertain.
